We can be experts at justifying our lack of success.  Don’t get me wrong, the reasons we give are often logical, but that doesn’t mean they’re valid.

Imagine living in a poor country with limited opportunities. Power outages are a daily occurrence, your education is limited and your neighborhood is rough – survival is the focus, not thriving.

Would you even dare to dream of something different?

Meet Kelvin Doe, AKA DJ Focus, from Freetown, Sierra Leone. He defied these circumstances.  By the age of 12, this self-taught engineer had built transmitters, batteries, and even his own radio station—all from discarded electronics. Impressive, right?

By 15, his ingenuity was recognized and documented, his story going viral. A year later, he became the youngest person invited to MIT’s Visiting Practitioner’s Program and spoke at TEDxTeen.

Today, he leads a foundation inspiring young inventors and entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams.

The takeaway? Play the hand you’re dealt. Experiment relentlessly.

Interestingly,  his story is echoed in others like this youth from Ghana who built his own car.

So, what really prevents you from chasing your dream?

Tune out the noise, ignore the doubters, avoid unnecessary distractions, and focus on your work.  Marvellous things are awaiting!

Reflect, Redefine, Rise!
