What do you do when the chips are down and everything feels like a struggle? A shattering piece of news, an unexpected turn of events, a drastic change in circumstances—it’s only natural to focus all your energy on meeting the challenge head-on.  Most likely with complete seriousness, devotion, and intent.

But what happens to our sense of joy in those moments?  Do we even allow ourselves to experience joy during a crisis?

I think many of us would feel guilty chasing any kind of joy while going through a difficult time.

Yet, what if that joy was the key to helping you come out the other side? What if the things you enjoy doing—your art, your hobbies, your passions—were actually the energy boost you need? The fuel injector? The uplift that carries you through?

Take Samantha Garvey, for example. This 20-year-old managed to achieve outstanding recognition for her scientific efforts while coping with homelessness. Her passion for science provided solace and strength in the face of harsh circumstances.

Watch her tell her story here.

So instead of feeling guilty for seeking sources of joy and inspiration, how about a change of perspective?

Yes, we need to do what we must to overcome challenges, but that includes refilling our own cup.

Remember,  you can’t pour from an empty cup!

Reflect, Redefine,  Rise

Something a little passionate is the last thing on our minds when we’re in a crisis. The two should not co-exist when in fact it is the spark we need to see us through. The sparkles to chase to get us out of the swamp.

Very beautifully put! It’s interesting how our instincts may not be serving us 🤔
